Bio

Bob Kaser is back for his 24th season with the Griffins. Kaser’s role has evolved since joining the organization in the summer of 2000, primarily serving as the team’s radio and television play-by-play broadcaster, while also proudly representing the Griffins’ business operations as a vice president and the Griffins Youth Foundation as president.

Kaser serves as director for both the Griffins Youth Foundation Golf Classic and the Griffins Youth Hockey Camps, as well as co-chair for the Great Skate Winterfest. His extensive work and commitment to West Michigan communities has contributed to raising nearly $7 million for local charities over the last 21 seasons while also having impacted the lives of so many with countless player and mascot visits in and around West Michigan.

Along with his long-time broadcast partners, Larry Figurski and Lou Rabaut, Kaser has won 10 broadcast excellence awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, as well as two AP honors for outstanding hockey play-by-play. He also earned the James H. Ellery Award as the AHL’s Broadcaster of the Year in 2010. No doubt, one of his greatest honors was bestowed in 2021, as he was inducted into the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame while acknowledged as the recipient of the Warren Reynolds Lifetime Achievement Award.

Behind the microphone for well over 3,000 games in his career covering the International Hockey League, the Western League and now AHL, Kaser added 14 NHL games to his credit in the 2016-17 season, doing radio play-by-play for 13 Detroit Red Wings games and calling one telecast on Fox Sports Detroit. To this day, he still serves as the fill-in for long-time Wings radio broadcaster, Ken Kal.

In his free time, Kaser assists with several other worthy causes in West Michigan, most notably sitting on the board of directors for Kids’ Food Basket and serving on its governance and capital campaign committees. Kaser is excited to add a role recently with the American Heart Association’s Leaders of Impact, helping bring awareness and raise funds for AHA. He also works with the Ryan Fischer Legacy Scholarship Fund, and the Advancing Excellence committee for East Grand Rapids Schools.

Kaser and his wife, Rosalie, are part-owners of the Kilwins in East Grand Rapids and in downtown Grand Rapids, and have two sons. Charlie is now the head equipment manager for the AHL’s Texas Stars, and Sam is a post-graduate student at the University of Iowa.
