SYVRET RETURNS FROM EDMONTON
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Edmonton Oilers on Saturday evening assigned defenseman Danny Syvret to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Syvret, 21, became the 86th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL on Feb. 27, a night made even more memorable by the Oilers’ retirement of Mark Messier’s jersey. He played 12 games with Edmonton, averaging a whopping 20:47 in ice time and leading the Oilers in time on ice twice, including a season-high 27:49 versus St. Louis on March 17.
Despite his month-long absence, Syvret still ranks third among Griffins defensemen with 18 points (4-14—18) in 50 contests. He is expected to rejoin the team prior to Sunday’s 5 p.m. matchup with the Toronto Marlies at Ricoh Coliseum.
