Spezia Assigned to Walleye

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins have assigned forward Tyler Spezia to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.

Spezia, 26, has split his second professional season between Grand Rapids and Toledo. In 22 games for the Griffins, he has contributed nine points (6-3—9) and 18 penalty minutes. Appearing in 20 contests for the Walleye, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward has produced 20 points (10-10—20), a plus-four rating and 20 PIM.

Spezia has logged 30 career games with Grand Rapids since making his AHL debut with the club last season and shows 11 points (7-4—11). He was signed to a one-year contract by Grand Rapids on July 1, 2019.

A native of Clinton Township, Mich., Spezia has played in 78 career regular season games for the Walleye since 2018-19, accounting for 59 points (21-38—59), a plus-13 rating and 54 PIM. He led all Toledo rookies with 39 points (11-28—39) in 58 games a season ago and tied for 19th in the ECHL in Kelly Cup Playoff scoring with 12 points (3-9—12) in 24 contests as he helped the Walleye advance to the Kelly Cup Finals for the first time in franchise history.

The Griffins (28-27-3-4) will continue their four-game homestand on Wednesday against Iowa at 7 p.m.
