GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins will usher in their second decade of hockey at Van Andel Arena this October with the debut of the team’s “Rockin’ the Rink” Entertainment Series.
During 14 nights over the course of the 2006-07 season presented by Comcast, “Rockin’ the Rink” will highlight various musical genres and celebrate those who rock, with live music, celebrity guest appearances and giveaways. The fun begins with the home opener versus Omaha on Saturday, Oct. 14, as the Griffins look to extend their opening-night sellout streak to an unprecedented 11 years. All fans will receive a concert-style “Rockin’ the Rink” T-shirt with the series schedule printed on the back. Details on all series dates can be found below.
Single-game tickets for these 14 contests, as well as each of the Griffins’ 40 regular season home games at Van Andel Arena, will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. Ticket prices remain unchanged from last season: $13 and $15 in the arena’s upper bowl, and $17, $20 and $25 in the lower bowl. A limited number of upper bowl tickets also go on sale for just $5 two weeks prior to each game.
Griffins tickets can be purchased in advance of game night through the following methods (all purchases subject to a convenience charge):
• In person at The Zone at Van Andel Arena;
• In person at Star Tickets Plus outlets, including all Meijer stores;
• By phone through Star Tickets Plus at 1-800-585-3737;

On game night, tickets may be purchased without a convenience charge at the Van Andel Arena box office, beginning 90 minutes before game time. Fans who attend multiple games can avoid charges and receive a discount from the single-game price by purchasing a five-, 10- or 20-game mini plan. These plans, along with full season and group ticket packages, may be ordered through the Griffins’ office at (800) 2-HOCKEY.
The Rockin’ the Rink Entertainment Series will be highlighted by celebrity appearances by former Heisman Trophy winner and Detroit Lions running back Billy Sims (Nov. 4), Nickelodeon’s Drake Bell from “The Drake and Josh Show” (Dec. 2), NASCAR “Chase for the Cup” contender Denny Hamlin (Jan. 13), “American Idol” Ace Young (Jan. 27), Roger Hazzard from A&E’s “Sell this House” (Feb. 24), and a rising country music star (March 17), as well as a celebration of the Griffins’ affiliation with the Detroit Red Wings (Feb. 3). The Griffins will retire their first jersey number during the Travis Richards Tribute (Nov. 24), and the New Year’s Eve Extravaganza returns with West Michigan’s largest indoor fireworks display.
In addition to the Rockin’ the Rink Entertainment Series, other key promotions include a pair of P.O.D.S. magnetic schedule giveaways (Oct. 20 and 21) and the annual Matinee Game presented by Lake Michigan Credit Union (Nov. 14).
Several popular recurring promotions will also be featured throughout the Griffins’ schedule, including 12 post-game skates and 13 post-game autograph sessions with Griffins players. All Friday games will feature both the Wendy’s Family Four Pack and the new Student Night, enabling students to purchase a lower bowl ticket for just $10. In conjunction with Rockin’ the Rink, Bud Light Friday nights will provide live music for fans on the concourse prior to the start of six selected Friday games. Finally, a new premium seating area called the Talsma Terrace will be introduced, providing fans with La-Z-Boy chairs and a host of amenities to enjoy while they watch the Griffins.
