WINGED OUELLET

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Saturday recalled defenseman Xavier Ouellet from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

A native of Bayonne, France, Ouellet has earned 11 points (1-10—11), 20 penalty minutes and a plus-10 rating in 32 games with Grand Rapids this season. In January, the 6-foot, 200-pound blueliner was named to the AHL’s Western Conference All-Star Team but was unable to compete due to being on recall with Detroit at the time of the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic. The 21-year-old has also notched three points (2-1—3), two PIM and a plus-four rating in 21 games with Detroit this season, notching his first NHL point (assist) on Nov. 22 at Toronto and his first NHL goal on Nov. 28 at New Jersey. Detroit’s second choice (48th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Ouellet has totaled 102 career games with the Griffins from 2013-15, logging 28 points (5-23—28) and 42 PIM.

The Wings will wrap up a season-long six-game road trip this afternoon in Nashville, where the team will take on the Predators at 3 p.m.

After shutting out the Milwaukee Admirals 4-0 at BMO Harris Bradley Center on Friday, the Griffins will look to wrap up the month of February without a regulation loss (9-0-2-0) tonight at 8 p.m., when the team battles the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena.
