TWO TO TOLEDO

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday reassigned forward Dylan Sadowy (SAD-oh-way) from the Grand Rapids Griffins to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye and the Griffins assigned defenseman Matt Caito to the Walleye.

In his rookie campaign, the 20-year-old Sadowy has skated in 26 games with the Griffins, registering six points (4-2—6), a plus-two rating and 14 penalty minutes. In three games with the Walleye, Sadowy has picked up three assists (0-3—3) and a plus-two rating.

Prior to turning professional, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound winger played the last four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, where he accumulated 188 points (116-72—188), a plus-23 rating and 245 PIM. Sadowy recorded back-to-back 40-goal outputs in his final two years. He notched 42 goals and 32 assists in 2014-15 with Saginaw before tallying 45 goals and 25 assists in 2015-16 as he split the season between the Spirit and Barrie. Sadowy skated in 20 career OHL Playoff contests and scored 10 points (6-4—10).

Originally drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the third round, 81st overall, of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Sadowy was acquired from San Jose by Detroit on May 26 in exchange for a third-round draft pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Skating in his first full professional season, Caito has played 10 games with the Griffins this year and logged his first career AHL goal and assist during last Saturday’s 6-0 win against San Antonio.

Caito has appeared in 13 contests with the Walleye during this year’s campaign, scoring seven points (5-2—7) and tying for fourth among team defensemen in goals. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound blueliner registered his first pro hat trick on Nov. 25 against Fort Wayne.

A native of Coto de Caza, Calif., Caito debuted professionally with the Walleye at the end of the 2015-16 season, banking five points (2-3—5) in eight regular season games and chipping in two points (1-1—2) in six Kelly Cup Playoff games.

Caito joined Toledo after concluding a four-year collegiate career at Miami University. He notched 151 career games with the RedHawks from 2012-16, totaled 72 points (16-56—72) and led the team’s defensemen in scoring during his first three years on campus.

The Central Division-leading Griffins welcome the Milwaukee Admirals to Van Andel Arena for a pair games on Friday and Saturday. Both games will start at 7 p.m.
