ROZIE THE RED WING

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday recalled goaltender Jared Coreau from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Coreau ranks among the AHL’s elite goaltenders this season, placing second in wins (29), tied for second in save percentage (0.931), tied for second in shutouts (six) and third in goals against average (2.15). Coreau’s 29 wins also tie him for fifth on the team’s single-season list. The 6-foot-6 netminder has been on a hot streak in his last six games, showing a 6-0-0 record, a league-best 0.99 GAA, a 0.967 save percentage and three shutouts.

Coreau, 24, was previously recalled by the Red Wings on Feb. 29 and served as a backup during Detroit’s 3-2 overtime victory at Dallas that night. Should he make his debut with the Red Wings, Coreau will become the 155th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL.

A native of Perth, Ontario, Coreau recorded an 11-game winning streak from Nov. 18-Dec. 26, during which he contributed to Grand Rapids’ franchise-record 15-game winning streak. Coreau also earned league recognition as he was named the AHL’s Goaltender of the Month for December after posting a 9-2-0 record, a 1.92 GAA and a 0.938 save percentage.

In his three seasons in Grand Rapids, Coreau has nine shutouts, including six this season to tie a club record.

Coreau also played parts of two seasons for the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye (2013-15), showing a 6-16-6 record and a 3.75 GAA.

Over the course of his three-year professional career, Coreau owns a 51-36-9 record and a 2.69 GAA.

Prior to turning pro, Coreau played three seasons at Northern Michigan University where he compiled a 32-31-4 record and garnered multiple CCHA Goaltender of the Week honors (Jan. 7 and March 4, 2013).

The Griffins have won 12 consecutive games and will continue a season-high five-game road trip as they face off against the Stars in Texas on Saturday at 8 p.m. EDT.

Fans can secure their full-season, select-season or group ticket packages by calling (616) 774-4585 ext. 2.
