ROZIE RETURNS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday assigned goaltender Jared Coreau to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Coreau suited up for the Red Wings in their 3-2 overtime win at Dallas on Monday night, but did not play.

Signed to a three-year entry-level contract by Detroit in April 2013, Coreau is among the AHL’s goaltending leaders this season. Sporting a 26-10-2 record, he is tied for second in wins, second in saves (1,114), third in save percentage (0.928), third in minutes played (2,300:33), tied for third in shutouts (four) and fourth in goals against average (2.27). His 26 wins place him in rare Griffins company, as only six other goalies have reached the 25-win plateau in the franchise’s 20-year history.

A native of Perth, Ontario, Coreau recorded an 11-game winning streak (Nov. 18-Dec. 26) – one off the record for a Griffins goalie set by Jimmy Howard – during which he contributed to Grand Rapids’ franchise-record 15-game winning streak. Coreau also garnered league recognition as he was named the AHL’s Goaltender of the Month for December after posting a 9-2-0 record, a 1.92 GAA and a 0.938 save percentage.

In his three seasons in Grand Rapids, Coreau has seven shutouts – including four this season – which ties for fifth-most on the club’s all-time list. During the 2014-15 season he rewrote the franchise’s record for longest shutout streak at 160:06 after posting back-to-back shutouts (Jan. 29 at Iowa and Jan. 30 at Milwaukee).

The 6-foot-6 netminder also played parts of two seasons for the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye (2013-15), showing a 6-16-6 record and a 3.75 GAA.

Over the course of his three-year professional career, Coreau owns a 48-36-9 record and a 2.76 GAA.

Prior to turning pro, Coreau played three seasons at Northern Michigan University where he compiled a 32-31-4 record. In his senior season, he started all 38 games, ranking in the top 10 nationally in minutes (2,181:36) and tallying a 2.70 GAA. Coreau also garnered multiple CCHA Goaltender of the Week honors (Jan. 7 and March 4, 2013) while also being named the team’s Most Valuable Player.

In his two junior seasons, Coreau recorded an 8-1-1 record and a 2.16 GAA for Peterborough (OJHL) in 2008-09 and a 7-22-4 mark for Lincoln (USHL) in 2009-10.

The Griffins will wrap up a four-game homestand tonight when they host the Central Division-leading Rockford IceHogs at 7 p.m.
