RENOUF JOINS GRIFFINS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday signed defenseman Dan Renouf (re-NUFF) to an amateur tryout. The Detroit Red Wings have also signed Renouf to a two-year entry-level contract that will commence next season.

A native of Pickering, Ontario, Renouf spent the last three seasons competing for the Maine Black Bears (Hockey East), where he appeared in 111 games and tallied 38 points (10-28—38).

The 2015-16 campaign was the most productive for Renouf, as he lead the team’s defensemen in goals, assists, points (6-9—15) and shots (82). He notched a career high in goals (2) and points (2-1—3) during the Black Bears’ 3-2 win against Vermont on Nov. 20, 2015 and was named Hockey East’s defensive player of the week on Nov. 23.

Prior to his collegiate career, the 6-foot-3, 209-pound blueliner spent two seasons with the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL), accumulating 43 points (11-32—43) in 115 games. Renouf, 21, also played in two games for the Whitby Fury (OJHL) during the 2009-10 season.

Victorious in eight straight games, the Griffins will host the Manitoba Moose on both Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
