OUELLET RECALLED

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday recalled defenseman Xavier Ouellet from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Detroit’s second choice (48th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Ouellet has collected eight points (1-7—8) and 16 penalty minutes in 21 games with Grand Rapids this season. The Bayonne, France, native has also picked up two points (1-1—2) in nine games with the Wings this season, tallying his first NHL point (assist) on Nov. 22 at Toronto and his first NHL goal on Nov. 28 at New Jersey. In 91 career games with the Griffins throughout the last two seasons, the 21-year-old Ouellet has accumulated 25 points (5-20—25), 38 PIM and a plus-eight rating.

The Griffins will take on the Chicago Wolves tonight at 8 p.m. at Allstate Arena, before traveling back to Grand Rapids tomorrow for a match against the Rockford IceHogs at 6 p.m. for the 18th Annual New Year’s Eve Celebration.

Detroit will briefly return to Joe Louis Arena to host the New Jersey Devils tomorrow at 7:30 p.m., when Ouellet will be available to play, before departing for a six-game road trip.
