NASTASIUK REASSIGNED TO GRAND RAPIDS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Monday reassigned forward Zach Nastasiuk (nuh-STAY-zee-ak) to the Grand Rapids Griffins from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.

In his second professional season, Nastasiuk has skated in 10 games with the Walleye and recorded five points (2-3—5) and a plus-one rating while helping Toledo post a league-best 0.833 points percentage (15-3). The 6-foot-1, 200-pound winger is riding a three-game point streak (2-1—3).

Detroit’s second choice (48th overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Nastasiuk has played in three games with the Griffins this season and contributed one assist. He has appeared in 41 career regular season AHL games since debuting with the Griffins in the latter stages of the 2014 campaign and banked nine points (3-6—9) and four penalty minutes, while tacking on one assist in 11 Calder Cup Playoff games.

The 21-year-old has played in 35 career games with the Walleye and posted 25 points (12-13—25), a plus-11 rating and 10 PIM.

Prior to turning professional, Nastasiuk amassed 187 points (89-98—187) in four seasons with Owen Sound (OHL) and served as a two-time captain.

The Barrie, Ontario, native helped his country win the gold medal at the 2013 18U World Junior Championship, scoring four points (2-2—4) in seven games.

The Griffins stand second in the Central Division and travel to Cleveland to play the Monsters on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
