McCOLLUM BACK ON BOARD

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Friday signed goaltender Tom McCollum to a one-year contract.

A native of Sanborn, N.Y., McCollum ranked fourth among AHL goaltenders during the 2013-14 season with a 2.30 goals against average, alongside a 24-12-4 record, two shutouts and a 0.922 save percentage. Last season, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound netminder set career bests in games played (46), wins and save percentage. Detroit’s first choice (30th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, McCollum ranks among the Griffins’ all-time goaltending leaders with 159 games played (3rd), 8,880:48 minutes (3rd), 69 wins (3rd), five shutouts (7th) and 3,886 saves (3rd).

A sixth-year pro and a Griffins mainstay since the 2009-10 season, McCollum made his NHL debut with the Red Wings on March 30, 2011, making five saves in a relief effort versus St. Louis.

In April, the 24-year-old McCollum was recognized as the Griffins’ 2013-14 IOA/American Specialty Man of the Year for his contributions to the Grand Rapids community.

Group tickets for eight guaranteed home dates at Van Andel Arena are now on sale along with 2014-15 season ticket packages. Single-game tickets will go on sale to the public in September. Fans can secure their full-season, select-season or group ticket packages by calling (616) 774-4585 ext. 2 or visit griffinshockey.com for more information.
