FRK AND CZARNOWCZAN SENT TO TOLEDO

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday reassigned right wing Martin Frk from the Grand Rapids Griffins to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye. In addition, the Griffins assigned defenseman Scott Czarnowczan to their ECHL affiliate.

Frk, 21, has picked up 12 points (6-6—12), 16 penalty minutes and a plus-12 rating in 32 regular season games with the Griffins this season. Detroit’s first choice (49th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Frk has also tallied two assists in two games during Grand Rapids’ current Western Conference Quarterfinals series against the Toronto Marlies.

The Pelhrimov, Czech Republic, native has also skated in 29 games with Toledo this season, recording 38 points (23-15—38) and ranking third on the team in goals. Prior to his reassignment to Grand Rapids on March 9, Frk strung together an eight-game point streak with the Walleye, accumulating 12 points (9-3—12) from Jan. 25-March 8, and has been held scoreless in only five ECHL games.

A native of Macomb, Mich., Czarnowczan picked up 10 points (2-8—10), 30 PIM and a plus-11 rating in 29 games with the Griffins during his first professional season. Along with his time with Grand Rapids, the 23-year-old has logged 29 games with Toledo, earning 25 points (2-23—25), 12 PIM and a plus-13 rating.

Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound blueliner spent four seasons with the Ferris State Bulldogs, where he gathered 63 points (9-54—63) and 212 PIM in 141 collegiate games. In addition to captaining the Bulldogs during his senior season, Czarnowczan made an appearance with Ferris State in the 2012 NCAA Frozen Four Championship game.

Down two games in their first-round best-of-five series against Toronto, the Griffins will return to Van Andel Arena tonight for a must-win Game 3 at 7 p.m.

Toledo will battle the Wheeling Nailers in Game 7 of their first-round Kelly Cup Playoffs series tonight at the Huntington Center at 7:35 p.m., when Frk and Czarnowczan will be available to play.
