DETROIT TRADES JARNKROK, ASSIGNS EMMERTON

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday traded center Calle Jarnkrok, along with forward Patrick Eaves and a conditional third-round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, to the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward David Legwand. In addition, Detroit assigned center Cory Emmerton to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

A native of Gavle, Sweden, Jarnkrok ranks third on the Griffins in scoring with 36 points (13-23—36) in 57 games. Detroit’s second choice (51st overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Jarnkrok spent the previous four seasons with Brynas of the Swedish Elite League, tallying 118 points (44-74—118) in 185 games. The 6-foot, 188-pound center helped his team to an SEL championship in 2012 and assisted his country in earning a gold medal at the 2013 World Championships.

Detroit’s first choice (41st overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Emmerton has skated in 41 games with the Griffins this season, tying for fourth on the team in scoring with 32 points (12-20—32). A native of St. Thomas, Ontario, Emmerton has also competed in 11 contests with Detroit, recording two assists. The 6-foot, 198-pound center has appeared in 132 career NHL games with the Wings since 2010-11, garnering 21 points (12-9—21) and 22 penalty minutes. In 258 career games with Grand Rapids, Emmerton has earned 143 points (46-97—143) and 80 PIM.

Returning to Van Andel Arena for a three-game home set, the Griffins will battle the Chicago Wolves tonight before hosting the Iowa Wild on Friday and Saturday. All three games will begin at 7 p.m.
