DETROIT REASSIGNS MACHOVSKY TO GRIFFINS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Friday reassigned goaltender Matej Machovsky (ma-TAY meh-HAWZ-kee) from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

In his first professional season in North America, Machovsky, 24, has appeared in two games with the Walleye and shows a 1-1-0 record, a 2.88 goals against average and a 0.909 save percentage. He stopped 29-of-30 shots in Toledo’s 4-1 win at Indy on Tuesday.

A native of Opava, Czech Republic, Machovsky played the last four seasons with Plzen HC of the Czech Extraliga. Skating in 178 games from 2013-17, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound netminder amassed a 94-84-0 record and a 2.23 GAA, including a 21-25-0 mark and a 2.25 GAA in last year’s campaign.

Prior to turning pro, Machovsky played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Guelph (2010-11) and Brampton (2010-13). He posted a 56-45-13 record and a 2.54 GAA in juniors and was named to the 2011 OHL Second All-Rookie Team after claiming the best goals against average (2.90) by a first-year goaltender.

The Griffins are in Iowa tonight to face the Wild at 8 p.m. EST.
