GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Friday recalled defenseman Alexey Marchenko from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Marchenko, 23, ranks fourth among Griffins defensemen with 20 points (3-17—20) in 51 games this season, while registering 26 penalty minutes and a plus-22 rating. In all, the 6-foot-2, 212-pound defenseman has accumulated 38 points (6-32—38), a plus-33 rating and 40 PIM in 100 career games with Grand Rapids from 2013-15, in addition to representing the Griffins at the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic.

A native of Moscow, Russia, Marchenko has appeared in 12 games this season with the Wings, earning his first NHL career point (assist) on Feb. 21 at Dallas and his first NHL goal on Feb. 28 at Nashville. Marchenko made his NHL debut last season on Jan. 4, 2014, when he became the 140th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL.

After clinching their 24th consecutive playoff berth on Thursday, the Red Wings will wrap up their regular season with a tilt on the road against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Griffins will take on the San Antonio Rampage on Friday (8:30 p.m.) and Saturday (8 p.m.) at the AT&T Center.
