cc13_primary.jpgThe Griffins' Magic Numbers...

For clinching the Midwest Division (Norman R. (Bud) Poile Trophy): 2 points
For clinching the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference: 10 points

After clinching its first playoff appearance since 2008-09, Grand Rapids now has its sights set on winning its first division title since 2005-06.

The Griffins have been eliminated from contention for both the AHL regular season points championship (Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy) and the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

Division Clinching Scenarios for Friday, April 19

The Griffins can win the Midwest Division title tonight and clinch no worse than the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference by beating Peoria in their regular season home finale. They can also clinch the division with either:

  • A Milwaukee loss in regulation versus Charlotte, or;
  • An overtime or shootout loss to Peoria coupled with a Milwaukee OTL/SOL to Charlotte.

If The Season Ended Today...

#3 Grand Rapids would face #6 Rochester in the best-of-five Western Conference Quarterfinals. It would mark the teams' first-ever meeting in the postseason.

The Griffins and Americans met only twice this season, with Grand Rapids winning 4-2 on Dec. 19 at Van Andel Arena and Rochester winning 4-3 on Oct. 19 at the Blue Cross Arena.

The Griffins' opponent and game dates for their first-round series will be announced no later than this Sunday night, as Grand Rapids' playoff seeding will be determined by results of this final weekend of the AHL’s regular season.
