COREAU RETURNS TO GRIFFINS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday assigned goaltender Jared Coreau to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The 158th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL, the 25-year-old Coreau shows a 5-4-3 record to go along with a 3.46 goals against average, a 0.887 save percentage and two shutouts in 14 games during his first season with the Red Wings. Coreau earned points in eight straight decisions following his first NHL win on Dec. 23 at Florida.

In 19 games with the Griffins this season, the fourth-year pro sports a 12-7-0 record and one shutout. If he met the AHL’s minutes requirement, Coreau’s 2.27 GAA and 0.922 save percentage would both tie for eighth on the circuit. In his last action with the Griffins during a two-game conditioning stint on Feb. 24 and 25, the 6-foot-6 netminder split his pair of starts while turning aside 63-of-69 (0.913) shots.

A native of Perth, Ontario, Coreau joined the Griffins during the 2013-14 season and continues to climb up the franchise’s goaltending record book with 57 wins (4th), 10 shutouts (T3rd), 96 games played (5th), 5557:19 minutes (5th), 2,612 saves (4th), and a career 2.41 GAA (7th). Coreau has appeared in four Calder Cup Playoff contests, showing a 2-2 record with a 2.21 GAA.

The Northern Michigan University product has also played parts of two seasons for the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye (2013-15), showing a 6-16-6 record and a 3.75 GAA.

Atop the Central Division, the Griffins continue their season-high seven-game road trip on Saturday when they visit Western Conference-leading San Jose at 9 p.m. EST.
