BERSCHBACH TO TOLEDO

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday assigned forward Shane Berschbach to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.

Berschbach, 23, made his AHL debut with the Griffins at Van Andel Arena last Friday versus the Lake Erie Monsters and registered one shot on goal in the contest. Prior to signing a one-year contract with Grand Rapids on July 1, the Royal Oak, Mich. native spent four seasons with Western Michigan University from 2010-14, picking up 117 points (39-78—117) in 146 career collegiate games.

The 5-foot-8, 165-pound left wing notched 38 points (16-22—38) in 40 contests with the Broncos during the 2013-14 season, earning him NCHC Offensive Player of the Week honors on three separate occasions. In 2011-12, Berschbach helped lead the Broncos to their first CCHA Tournament Championship since 1986 when he finished second on the team in scoring with 32 points (10-22—32) in 37 games.

The Griffins will hit the road this weekend to take on the Charlotte Checkers on Friday and Saturday at Time Warner Cable Arena, with both games beginning at 7 p.m.
