GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Forty players with Grand Rapids Griffins playing experience will be among the 66 Detroit Red Wings stars, prospects and invitees who will take to the ice on Friday, Sept. 19 for the start of Red Wings training camp at Centre ICE Arena in Traverse City, Mich.

Twenty-eight players who skated for the Griffins during the 2013-14 season are slated to participate, including goaltenders Jared Coreau, Tom McCollum and Petr Mrazek; defensemen Mattias Backman, Brennan Evans, Nick Jensen, Alexey Marchenko, Richard Nedomlel, Xavier Ouellet, Nathan Paetsch and Ryan Sproul; and forwards Andreas Athanasiou, Louis-Marc Aubry, Mitch Callahan, Colin Campbell, Landon Ferraro, Martin Frk, Luke Glendening, Darren Helm, Alden Hirschfeld, Jeff Hoggan, Tomas Jurco, Zach Nastasiuk, Andrej Nestrasil, Gustav Nyquist, Teemu Pulkkinen, Riley Sheahan and Marek Tvrdon.

Also present at camp will be 12 other former Griffins – Justin Abdelkader, Joakim Andersson, Danny DeKeyser, Jonathan Ericsson, Jonas Gustavsson, Jimmy Howard, Jakub Kindl, Niklas Kronwall, Brian Lashoff, Kyle Quincey, Brendan Smith and Tomas Tatar – and several players who could make their Grand Rapids debuts this season, including goaltender Jake Paterson; forwards Tyler Barnes, Anthony Mantha, Tomas Nosek, Kevin Porter and Mark Zengerle; and defenseman Marc McNulty. Another potential Griffins forward, Andy Miele, will not take part in the camp due to an injury.

Griffins head coach Jeff Blashill and assistant coaches Pat Ferschweiler and Dave Noel-Bernier will assist the Red Wings’ coaching staff during the camp, which concludes next Tuesday, Sept. 23.

The camp schedule for Friday and Saturday will see three player groups hitting the ice for practice at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1:05 p.m., with two of those groups scrimmaging from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday will see the groups practice at 9:45 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 1:20 p.m., with a Red vs. White Game at noon.

The Red Wings will play two of their eight preseason games before breaking camp, visiting the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. and the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 8:30 p.m. EDT. The players participating in each game will have a morning skate in Traverse City prior to departure, while the non-traveling players will practice from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m.

The Griffins will begin their own training camp in Grand Rapids on Monday, Sept. 29, with practice times and locations yet to be announced, before playing a pair of neutral-site preseason games against the Lake Erie Monsters. Grand Rapids will first battle the Monsters on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:05 p.m. at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, home to the Ontario Hockey League's Windsor Spitfires, before squaring off again on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, where the ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets play.

The Griffins will commence the AHL’s regular season on Fri. Oct. 10 at Van Andel Arena, kicking off their 19th campaign overall, 14th as members of the American Hockey League and 13th as the primary affiliate of the Red Wings.
