ADMIRALS POST SHUTOUT WIN OVER GRIFFINS

GRAND RAPIDS GRIFFINS 0 at Milwaukee Admirals 4

Nov. 7, 2014

MILWAUKEE
– After failing to record a win in their last four home games, the Grand Rapids Griffins fell short in their attempt for a fourth consecutive road win as they fell to the Milwaukee Admirals, 4-0, Friday at BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Milwaukee goaltender Magnus Hellberg turned away all 22 shots the Griffins fired for his fourth win and first shutout of the season. Tom McCollum made 15 saves on 18 shots in the loss.

Milwaukee (8-2-0-0) opened the scoring at 6:32 of the first period when Joe Pendenza netted his third of the season past McCollum. He was aggressive in attacking the net and took advantage of a rebound from Viktor Arvidsson.

It didn’t take long for the home team to score again, as Viktor Stalberg attracted three Griffins defenders heading into the corner and fed Colton Sissons in front of the Grand Rapids net. Sissons slid the puck through the legs of McCollum for his third of the season at 12:26 of the first.

The Griffins (3-5-1-0) continued to pepper Hellberg without success. Grand Rapids found itself trailing by three at 13:30 of the second period, when Mark Van Guilder released a shot from the left goal line that deflected off of McCollum’s pads and into the net.

McCollum went to the bench in favor of an extra skater with just over two minutes remaining in the game. But it was Milwaukee who found the net with just a minute left on the clock, as Sissons scored his second of the night with an empty-netter.

Both teams failed to score on four power play opportunities. There were also four fighting major penalties assessed to each team.

The Griffins will continue their road trip on Saturday when they face the Rockford IceHogs at 8 p.m. EST.

Notes: The last time the Griffins were shut out on the road during the regular season was a 3-0 loss at Charlotte on April 10, 2014.

Three Stars: 1. MIL Hellberg (W, 22 saves); 2. MIL Sissons (two goals); 3. MIL Pendenza (goal)
