GRIFFINS, STORM EXCHANGE GOALIES
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Tuesday assigned goaltender Drew MacIntyre to the Toledo Storm and recalled goaltender Logan Koopmans from the ECHL club.
The switch was made to afford the 21-year-old MacIntyre more playing time, as he has started just once for Grand Rapids since Feb. 1 while serving as Joey MacDonalds backup. MacIntyre, who shows a 6-5-0 record with one shutout, a 2.57 goals against average and a 0.908 save percentage in 17 appearances for the Griffins, is scheduled to start for the Storm this Friday when they visit the Peoria Rivermen at 8:30 p.m. EST.
Koopmans, 20, is playing his first pro season after being selected by the Detroit Red Wings with their fifth choice (166th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. In 22 games with Toledo, he has compiled an 11-9-1 record with two shutouts, a 2.95 GAA and a 0.903 save percentage.
Koopmans, who served as MacIntyres understudy during two Griffins games in early January, will be in uniform on Wednesday when the St. Johns Maple Leafs visit Van Andel Arena at 7 p.m.
