Griffins Flashback: May 6

Take a look back at this date in Griffins history.

May 6, 2017
Rebounding from their first loss of the playoffs 23 hours earlier, the Griffins get goals from Matthew Ford, Ben Street and Tyler Bertuzzi before the game is 11 minutes old, and Jared Coreau makes 27 saves to help Grand Rapids take a 4-2 win and a 2-1 lead over Chicago in the Central Division Finals. Bertuzzi’s tally is the eighth game-winning playoff goal of his career, extending his franchise record, while the crowd of 8,764 is the largest for a Griffins home playoff game since Game 4 of the 2015 Western Conference Finals and the team’s second-largest since the 2013 Calder Cup Finals. Teemu Pulkkinen notches a hat trick, including the game-winner with 2:46 remaining, and becomes the Griffins’ all-time playoff goal-scoring leader with 17 as Grand Rapids takes Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals 5-3 over Rockford. The Griffins tie a franchise playoff record with their fourth consecutive home victory, and Tom McCollum turns in another rock-solid performance with 34 saves to join Marc Lamothe as the only goalies in franchise history to log four consecutive playoff wins at Van Andel Arena. Another virtuoso performance by Cory Schneider propels Manitoba to a 3-2 victory at Van Andel Arena, finishing off the North Division Finals with a four-game sweep. Schneider turns away 30 shots, half of them during a furious third-period rally in which the Griffins out-shoot the Moose 16-4, to finish the series with just five goals allowed on 106 shots.
