Griffins Flashback: May 4

Take a look back at this date in Griffins history.

May 4, 2013
Tomas Tatar registers two goals and an assist and Petr Mrazek stops all 24 shots to become the first rookie in Griffins history to notch a playoff shutout, as Grand Rapids eliminates Houston with a 7-0 victory in Game 5 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. The seven-goal margin sets Griffins records for largest in a playoff shutout and a home playoff game and matches an AHL playoff record for the largest in a winner-take-all game, tying Quebec’s 8-1 win over Providence in the 1969 semifinals. Grand Rapids closes out Houston’s AHL tenure with its first series win since 2009 and its first playoff shutout since May 2, 2003. (Photos)

The Griffins are held to fewer than two goals for the third straight game – a first in their playoff history – as a 3-1 loss to Manitoba puts them in a 0-3 hole in the North Division Finals.
