Mitch Callahan bangs home a loose puck with 3:40 remaining to give the Griffins their first lead of the night before Tomas Nosek scores into an empty cage in the final minute to seal a 4-2 victory over the Barracuda in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. San Jose builds an early 2-1 lead that holds for more than 30 minutes until Matt Lorito’s equalizer on the power play 6:40 into the third period, the start of three unanswered goals by the Griffins that enable them to seize a 2-1 series lead. Grand Rapids ties a franchise playoff record with its fifth straight win on home ice. (Photos)

On the strength of Petr Mrazek’s 27 saves, the Griffins claim Game 1 of a conference finals for the first time ever, earning a 2-1 win over Oklahoma City. Landon Ferraro’s goal 2:35 into the second period holds up as the game-winner, as the Griffins also win a conference finals game on home ice for the first time in 10 years and three days, dating to a Game 6 victory over Houston on May 21, 2003. The Griffins’ record-setting 63-win season comes to an end with a 5-4 loss at Milwaukee, as Grand Rapids falls 4-0 in the Western Conference Finals. Trailing 4-1 in the middle period, the Griffins get goals from Darryl Bootland and Valtteri Filppula (two) to tie the game before the second intermission, but the Admirals notch their AHL-record seventh shorthanded goal of the postseason just 21 seconds into the final period to claim the win. Each of the last three games in the series is decided by a single goal.
