Griffins Flashback: May 2

Take a look back at this date in Griffins history.

May 2, 2015
Tomas Nosek notches a shorthanded tally and a power play goal to counter an early Toronto goal, and the Griffins score three times in the final period before surviving a late Marlies push to claim a 5-4 win in Game 4 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals at Van Andel Arena. Rookie Tyler Bertuzzi records his second game-winning goal in as many games as the Griffins force a decisive Game 5 on their home ice. (Photos)

Jeff Hoggan’s first two-goal playoff performance as a Griffin powers Grand Rapids to a series-clinching 5-3 win over Abbotsford in Game 4 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. Hoggan also records an assist while Mattias Backman, Landon Ferraro and Teemu Pulkkinen all register two-point nights, as the defending Calder Cup champions win their fifth consecutive playoff series to advance to the conference semifinals. Thanks to Marc Lamothe’s 26 saves and Stacy Roest’s team-record fourth game-winning goal of the playoffs at 18:03 of the third period, the Griffins take a 2-0 win at Chicago and claim the Western Conference Semifinals in four games. Grand Rapids becomes the 11th team in AHL history to sweep the defending Calder Cup champions and advances to a conference final for the third time in four years.

Michel Picard nets the Griffins’ first-ever playoff hat trick in a 4-1 win at Cleveland, as Grand Rapids takes a 3-1 lead in the IHL Eastern Conference Semifinals.
