Jeff Hoggan’s first two-goal playoff performance as a Griffin powers Grand Rapids to a series-clinching 5-3 win over Abbotsford in Game 4 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. Hoggan also records an assist while Mattias Backman, Landon Ferraro and Teemu Pulkkinen all register two-point nights, as the defending Calder Cup champions win their fifth consecutive playoff series to advance to the conference semifinals. Another defensive struggle goes the way of the home team, as Manitoba holds serve for the second straight night with a 2-1 win over the Griffins in Game 2 of the North Division Finals. Jimmy Howard’s 20 saves are trumped by Cory Schneider’s 28 stops.

Thanks to Marc Lamothe’s 26 saves and Stacy Roest’s team-record fourth game-winning goal of the playoffs at 18:03 of the third period, the Griffins take a 2-0 win at Chicago and claim the Western Conference Semifinals in four games. Grand Rapids becomes the 11th team in AHL history to sweep the defending Calder Cup champions and advances to a conference final for the third time in four years.
