Griffins Flashback: May 17

Take a look back at this date in Griffins history.

May 17, 2015
The Griffins advance to the Western Conference Finals for the second time in three seasons, as their 5-3 win at Rockford gives them a 4-1 series victory in the conference semis. Sparked by Teemu Pulkkinen’s franchise-record eighth power play goal of his postseason career, the Griffins improve to 3-0 all time under Jeff Blashill in road games when their opponent faces elimination. More impressively, Grand Rapids improves to 7-1 in playoff series during Blashill’s three seasons behind the bench, after winning just eight series (against 10 losses) during the franchise’s first 16 years. The Griffins push Toronto to the brink with a 4-1 victory at Van Andel Arena, taking a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference Semifinals. Landon Ferraro banks the game-winning goal off a Marlies defenseman and past former Griffin Drew MacIntyre with less than 10 minutes remaining, and Grand Rapids scores two empty-netters in the final minute to cap off a night in which it outshot Toronto by a 2-to-1 margin (36-18).
