Griffins Flashback: May 13

Take a look back at this date in Griffins history.

May 13, 2017
The Griffins advance to the Western Conference Finals for the third time in five years thanks to a 5-2 victory at Chicago in Game 5 of the Central Division Finals. On the strength of two goals by Tyler Bertuzzi, the Griffins exact revenge against a Wolves team that had finished first in the Central Division by a single point over Grand Rapids during the regular season. The Griffins also improve their AHL-leading playoff record to 7-1, matching the best postseason start in franchise history, and win their sixth straight game in which their opponent faced playoff elimination. Jumpstarted by shorthanded and power play goals in the opening period, Rockford noses its way back into the Western Conference Semifinals with a 4-1 home victory over the Griffins that cuts Grand Rapids’ series lead to 2-1. Teemu Pulkkinen pushes his AHL-high goal total to 12 to mark the 29th point of his Griffins playoff career and move past Jiri Hudler into sole possession of second on the team’s all-time postseason scoring list. Still, the Griffins lose a franchise-record sixth straight road playoff game. (Photos)

The Griffins jump out to a 3-0 advantage en route to claiming a 3-2 win at Manitoba and a 3-2 lead in the North Division Finals. Manitoba out-shoots Grand Rapids 30-2 over the final 35 minutes, but Jimmy Howard makes 34 saves and the Griffins’ penalty killers deny all nine Moose power play chances.
