Griffins Flashback: June 2

Take a look back at this date in Griffins history.

June 2, 2017
Tomas Nosek jams home a power play goal with 14 seconds remaining to lift the Griffins to an exhilarating 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Syracuse in Game 1 of the Calder Cup Finals. Nosek’s second goal of the game results from a too-many-men penalty incurred by the Crunch with 29 seconds left and enables the Griffins to improve to 8-0 at Van Andel Arena during this postseason, setting a franchise record for most home wins in a single playoff. Cory Conacher’s goal early in the second period is all Utica needs, as the Comets claim a berth in the Calder Cup Finals with a 2-0 home victory. The Griffins’ third-ever foray into the month of June ends largely due to the goaltending of Jacob Markstrom, who makes 21 saves for the shutout. (Photos)

June 2, 2013
The Griffins move within one win of advancing to their first Calder Cup Finals in franchise history with a 3-0 win at Oklahoma City in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals. Petr Mrazek posts his second straight shutout behind 37 saves, extending his personal shutout streak to 161:38 and his consecutive saves streak to 100, as he becomes just the 15th goalie in AHL history to post consecutive shutouts twice in the same postseason.
