The first championship in the Griffins’ 17 seasons, as well as the 27-year history of professional hockey in Grand Rapids, is secured with a 5-2 win at Syracuse in Game 6 of the Calder Cup Finals. The cup-clinching goal is scored at 9:54 of the third period by Brennan Evans, who did not score a goal during the regular season. Tomas Tatar wins the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as the most valuable player in playoffs after totaling 21 points -- including a league-best 16 goals -- in 24 games. The game date marks the latest in the 77-year history of the AHL, as Jeff Hoggan, Evans and Chad Billins each plays in his 100th game of the season. (Photos)

The longest-tenured head coach in Griffins history becomes the third to earn a promotion to the NHL, as the Dallas Stars hire Curt Fraser as an assistant coach. Fraser ends his four-year run in Grand Rapids with a cumulative 146-130-18-22 record (0.525), ranking first in franchise history in both regular season games coached (316) and wins (146).
