Jeff Blashill is named the winner of the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award as the AHL’s outstanding coach for 2013-14, a season in which the defending Calder Cup champions post their best record (46-23-2-5, 99 pts.) in eight years and never lose more than two straight games in regulation. He becomes the third Griffin to be named his league’s coach of the year, joining Bruce Cassidy (2001-02) and Guy Charron (1999-00, IHL).

Despite a 5-4 loss at Kansas City, the Griffins finish their most successful campaign ever with a 53-22-7 record and post their 14th straight winning month under the Ottawa affiliation. Derek King’s goal gives him 83 points and makes him a co-recipient of the IHL’s Leo P. Lamoureax Trophy as the league’s top scorer. The Griffins become the first IHL team since 1958 to allow fewer than 200 goals in consecutive seasons, finishing with 196, and set a team record with an IHL-best 279 tallies. Ivan Ciernik finishes with a plus-41 rating, marking the second straight year that a Griffin led the IHL.

The Griffins claim their first Eastern Conference regular season championship and earn their 50th win thanks to a 5-2 victory at Cincinnati. Michel Picard ties a franchise mark with two shorthanded goals.
