Overcoming a 42-save performance by Tom McCollum in his first game against his longtime team, the Griffins rally for a 2-1 shootout victory over Charlotte to clinch home-ice advantage in the opening round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. McCollum and Jared Coreau, who formed one of the AHL’s top tandems over the previous two seasons, combine to stop 65 of 67 shots over the course of 65 minutes of play. (Photos)

The Griffins cap off their 2007-08 season with Evan McGrath scoring at the 2:18 mark of overtime to give Grand Rapids a 3-2 win against Manitoba. Carl Corazzini’s nine shots during the contest push his season total up to 274, setting a new franchise mark for most shots in a single season and securing the league lead in the category.

Niklas Kronwall is named the winner of the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL’s outstanding defenseman, becoming the first European-born player to earn the honor.

A 5-2 win over Michigan gives the Griffins a 10-2 record against the K-Wings, setting a team record for most wins against an opponent in a single season. Grand Rapids finishes 28-8-4 all-time versus Michigan.
