GRIFFINS' 2005-06 SCHEDULE FEATURES RECORD 17 SATURDAYS AT HOME

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. The Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday released their schedule for the 2005-06 season, their tenth overall and fifth as members of the American Hockey League.

The 80-game slate, which begins Oct. 8 and concludes April 15 with visits by the Milwaukee Admirals, features a franchise-record 17 Saturday dates at Van Andel Arena. Coupled with 11 Friday home games, the 28 prime dates tie for the most in team history.

We know how much our fans love Saturday nights with the Griffins, so we are very pleased to be able to deliver such a great schedule, said Bob Sack, the teams senior vice president of sales and marketing.

The Griffins, new members of the AHLs North Division, will be home for each of the seasons first five Saturdays, and each of their first seven home games will be staged on either a Friday or Saturday. Their Oct. 8 home opener will be the first to feature the new start time of 7 p.m. for nearly all games, with the exception of two 4 p.m. Sunday faceoffs, and three 8 p.m. Saturday starts necessitated by earlier events at Van Andel Arena.

The home schedule includes several traditional holiday games, including a post-Thanksgiving matchup with the Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday, Nov. 26, the ninth annual New Years Eve bash on Saturday, Dec. 31 against the Chicago Wolves, a Valentines Day engagement with the Manitoba Moose, and a St. Patricks Day tilt versus the Cleveland Barons.

Other highlights include the fifth annual Griffins Matinee Game presented by Lake Michigan Credit Union (Nov. 15), along with the first West Michigan appearances by the Iowa Stars (Oct. 28), Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights (Oct. 22), Peoria Rivermen (Feb. 11) and Toronto Marlies (Jan. 20). In all, Grand Rapids will face 15 of the AHLs other 26 teams in 2005-06, matching the most diverse schedule of its five seasons in the league.
