Take a Look Back - Dominic Turgeon

By the numbers

0:12 – Turgeon’s second shorthanded goal of the year came 12 seconds into the second period on Jan. 22 vs. Iowa and was the fastest goal to open any period by the Griffins this season.

2 – Turgeon ranked second on the team with a +7 rating, one behind Turner Elson and one ahead of Brian Lashoff. He finished with an even or positive rating in 79.3% of the games (50 of 63). Turgeon has posted a positive rating in all four of his AHL seasons and is a +28 in his career.

2 – One of the Griffins’ top penalty killers, Turgeon led the roster and tied for 20th in the AHL with two shorthanded tallies. His first SHG on Jan. 8 at Milwaukee turned out to be the game-winner and his second came in a 4-3 shootout victory against Iowa on Jan. 22. Turgeon also scored one shorty during the 2017-18 campaign and has three in his career.

4 – Turgeon was responsible for just four penalty minutes this season, the lowest amount by any Griffin who played at least 40 games. He didn’t commit his first infraction until Dec. 21 in his 31st game. Turgeon has recorded 74 PIM in 275 games during his career.

10 – Turgeon tied Matt Ford for fifth on the team with 10 goals as he was one of six Griffins to achieve the double-digit goal plateau. He lit the lamp for the 10th time on Jan. 31 at Iowa.

63 – The 6-foot-2, 203-pound center was the only Griffin to suit up in all 63 games this season, which also tied for the league lead. Since making his AHL debut during Grand Rapids’ season opener on Oct. 14, 2016, Turgeon has played in 94.5% of the team’s games (275 of 291).

93 – Drafted in the third round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by Detroit, Turgeon has compiled 93 points (36-57—93) in 275 AHL games. Despite the 2019-20 campaign being cut short, his 23 points and 10 goals both were the second-highest in his career, behind only the 32 points and 14 goals he picked up during his second-pro season in 2017-18.
