2018-19 in Review: Patrik Rybar

Signed by the Red Wings to a one-year entry-level in May 2018, goaltender Patrik Rybar, a native of Slovakia, notched a 16-16-5 record to go along with a 2.49 goals against average and a 0.908 save percentage in 37 appearances with the Griffins.

By the numbers

1 – The first-year Griffin stopped all 24 shots on Jan. 19 vs. Milwaukee to earn his first AHL shutout and scoop up his 10th victory of the campaign. Both of Rybar’s clean sheets this season came against the Admirals (March 9).

2 – Rybar teamed with Harri Sateri to form the first European goaltending duo in Griffins history. Grand Rapids was the second to last team in the AHL (Iowa) to make an in-game goalie change, with the first occurrence coming on March 29 at home against Chicago after Sateri suffered an injury in the first period.

4 – Rybar started a season-high four consecutive games from March 30-April 5. His four straight starts came as part of appearing in five contests in a row from March 29-April 5, also a season high.

5 – Rybar recorded a season-high five-game point streak from Dec. 22-Jan. 11. He posted a 3-0-2 record, a 1.91 GAA and a 0.932 save percentage (137/147) in that span.

10 – Rybar’s 2.49 GAA placed 10th in the AHL. He also ranked among the league’s leaders with a 0.908 save percentage (T19th) and two shutouts (T11th).

21 – The 6-foot-3, 185-pound netminder stopped 21 of 22 shots at Belleville on Oct. 27 to pick up his first victory on North American soil in his second start.

34 – Against Texas on Feb. 22, Rybar halted a season-high 34 shots in a 4-3 shootout victory. He made three saves on five attempts in the skills competition.

102:57 – Rybar enjoyed a season-high shutout streak of 102:57, which was also the longest by a Griffins netminder this season. His run started at the 3:41 mark of the second period on March 6 vs. Texas, included his second shutout of the season on March 9 at Milwaukee, and concluded at the 6:38 of the first period on March 15 vs. Rockford.
